Wimbledon Embraces Video Challenge System This Season.

The Championships tennis court with replay technology

The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in implementing replay technology.

Replay technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Competitors will gain the ability to challenge particular rulings from the official, mirroring the protocol already in operation at both the US Open and the Aussie major.

This innovation is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles contests.

This move follows just a year after the All England Club introduced ELC, which effectively ended the centuries-old tradition of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Players will not be permitted to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can request the official to review other situations, including:

  • If a ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or body during play.
  • Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a point.

Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a player can request.

Practical Application

A recent case took place in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.

Draper conceded it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and determined the player was responsible for interference, granting the point to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

This technology are not exclusive to Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have the system implemented at every one of its events.

Other Changes

A further change at Wimbledon 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.

This solves situations where the crowd have occasionally been uncertain whether a shot was in or out.

In other news, with exactly a century of days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
